Many of this year’s winning entries will be on display, including the global exhibition winner, the first place U.S. winner and entries from the 51 Indiana residents who entered the competition. The exhibit will be on display at the Indiana Cancer Pavilion from March 10 – April 7, 2007 during the following hours: Monday – Friday from 10:00 a.m. – 7:00 p.m., and Saturdays from 10:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m.
"The CompleteLife program is proud to partner with Eli Lilly in bring the Oncology on Canvas exhibition to the IU Cancer Center," says Caroline Carney Doebbeling, MD, program director. " The paintings displayed during this month-long exhibit reveal the range of human emotions experienced by women and men facing cancer, and those who love and care for them. Whether these images evoke hope, fear, anxiety, joy, or triumph, these paintings will enrich the spirits of all those who encounter them. We hope this exhibition will stimulate more of our patients and providers to engage in creative expression."
Lilly Oncology on Canvas: Expressions of a Cancer Journey is presented by Eli Lilly and Company in partnership with the National Coalition for Cancer Survivorship. Lilly Oncology on Canvas was created in 2004 by Lilly to honor the journeys people face when confronted with by a cancer diagnosis. The biennial competition invites people diagnosed with any type of cancer, their families and friends, cancer advocates, health care providers, as well as artists and art students to express, through art and in narrative, their own cancer journeys. This year the competition received more than 2,000 entries from 43 countries. The art is currently touring the world, inspiring others on their cancer journeys.
