IU Simon Cancer Center seeks candidates for associate director for clinical research

Indiana University Melvin and Bren Simon Cancer Center is seeking candidates for the position of Associate Director for Clinical Research.  This person will set the overall direction and development of the cancer center's clinical research program.  Responsibilities include maintaining an independent research effort and fostering the continued development of translational and clinical research programs and trans-disciplinary collaborations.  The successful candidate will serve as a senior leader of the IU Simon Cancer Center and chair its Clinical Research Committee.  He/she will recognize promising areas of research, provide direction to faculty in pursuing research objectives, and will be responsible for clinical science oriented shared facilities.  The successful candidate will also be expected to continue the growth of an existing Phase I program.

The IU Simon Cancer Center is an NCI-designated cancer center and a program of the IU School of Medicine, the only medical school in Indiana.  The center has a rich and long history of clinical research success and provides an outstanding environment for the conduct of translational and clinical research.  Cancer center shared facilities include an established Clinical Research Office, Biostatistics Core, a state-of-the-art clinical pharmacology facility, and a translational genomics core.  In October 2008, the Center will occupy its new 450,000 sq. ft. hospital and clinical facility.  In January 2009, its investigators will also occupy a new basic science research building with more than 125,000 sq. ft. devoted to cancer research and assigned by the center. 

The position includes a generous start-up package and a primary appointment in the appropriate clinical department.  The successful applicant will hold an MD or equivalent degree and have evidence of successful collaboration, strong interpersonal and communication skills, and significant peer-reviewed funding.
