IU Simon Cancer Center's "Celebration of Life" set May 29-30

INDIANAPOLIS -- May 23, 2007 --Indiana University Melvin and Bren Simon Cancer Center will honor its patients and families May 29 and 30 at its annual National Cancer Survivors' Day event, "Celebration of Life."

This two-day celebration is hosted by the cancer center's CompleteLife program and includes a health fair on both days from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Educational exhibits by CompleteLife as well as local cancer organizations on cancer support services and performances by local musicians will be part of the event each day.

Bruce Hetrick, chairman and CEO of Hetrick Communications, Inc., cancer survivor and honorary chair of 2007 Celebration of Life, will deliver the event's keynote address at noon, Wednesday, May 30, to be followed by a cancer-survivors panel discussion. The program will be an opportunity for attendees to hear inspiring stories of survivorship and to ask pressing questions related to life during and beyond cancer.

At 5 p.m., the Torchbearer Awards Ceremony, a celebration for everyone touched by cancer -- patients, families, friends and the caregiver team -- will begin. That ceremony will feature the inaugural performance of the cancer center's Cancer Survivors Choir. The choir is conducted by Chris Ludwa, conductor of the Indianapolis Arts Chorale.

All events will be in the lobby of the Indiana Cancer Pavilion, 535 Barnhill Drive, on the campus of Indiana University-Purdue University Indianapolis.
