Six Ovarian Cancer ITRAC Projects Aim to Improve Treatment and Prevention OptionsOvarian cancer is the leading cause of mortality among gynecological malignancies. With current treatment, the majority of patients succumb to their disease. Using the ITRAC (IU Simon Cancer Center Translational Research Acceleration Collaboration) initiative, the cancer center awarded six grants to researchers leading ovarian cancer studies. New IU Simon Cancer Center Clinical Facility on Target to Open June 2008Over the past ten months, the exterior facade of the new clinical facility, to be named the Indiana University Melvin and Bren Simon Cancer Center, has been taking shape. Exterior windows limestone and brick have been installed at a rapid pace. The building exterior will be completed by the end of July 2007, with the interior on target for completion a year later for a June 2008 opening. More...May 30, 2007
Informatics, nursing team building useful Web portal for cancer patientsCancer patients using the Web for answers about their conditions and the latest treatments are forced to maneuver through a massive maze of misinformation that could be harmful to their health. But a joint project between the Schools of Informatics and Nursing at Indiana University-Purdue University Indianapolis -- funded by a $250,000 grant from the Walther Cancer Institute -- seeks to avoid that puzzle through the development of a customized Web portal to deliver more personalized information to patients at the IU Simon Cancer Center.  More...May 30, 2007

Golf Event Honoring Late IMS Executive Buddy McAtee Raised $100,000 for IU Simon Cancer Center ResearchPassion and creativity were the hallmarks of Buddy McAtee’s life, and after his death in February, his family and friends helped him complete his final project. Buddy, an executive with the Indianapolis Motor Speedway, had envisioned a golf event at the Speedway’s Brickyard Crossing in May. The event came off as he had planned, with $100,000 raised to support cancer research at the Indiana University Melvin and Bren Simon Cancer Center. More...May 30, 2007
