Resection
Once a tumor has been biopsied and determined to be osteosarcoma, chemotherapy is usually given to try to shrink the tumor. So, before surgery imaging studies must be done since the tumor has most likely changed, even just due to shrinkage. Once resection of the tumor is complete, limb salvage surgery can proceed.
