Dealing with Change after the Loss of Your Loved One

The death of a loved one created many changes for the surviving family members. Some changes include:

  • Changes in routine
  • Role changes
  • Financial changes
  • Activity changes
  • Relationship changes
  • Changes in goals and spirituality

Although these changes may be necessary, they can be extremely big and stressful. So, here are some strategies that can help you deal with these new changes:

  • Make major decisions slowly and after a lot of thought.
  • Talk about how each person's roles are changing, setting up a plan for this change. You may have to delegate new responsibilities to family members.
  • Get help handling financial and legal matters by talking to a lawyer, accountant or financial advisor.
  • Consider joining a support group so you can talk with others who share your feelings and experiences.
