Clinical Wilms Tumor Research
To identify biomarkers that predict the response to chemotherapy, we are using blood samples collected by the Children's Oncology Group. In addition, clinical trials are in progress at Riley Hospital for Children. These blood samples are collected from:
- Children with Wilms tumor at multiple time points during and after their treatment.
- Healthy children which are used as controls.
These blood samples will allow us to identify biomarkers for Wilms tumor by comparing the blood samples from children with Wilms tumor to the blood samples from healthy children. Samples collected at multiple time points will allow us to follow these biomarkers throughout the treatment phase and for several months afterwards, showing any changes that may occur over this period of time. The blood specimen biomarkers are linked not only with clinical data, but also with the research results as they become available. The specimen database was developed in collaboration with investigators at the Regenstrief Institute.
