Tissue Procurement and DistributionPolicies & Procedures

Tissue Procurement Process

  1. A copy of the (IRB) approval should be provided to the Tissue Procurement Facility, along with a completed Tissue Request Form.
  2. The pathologist examines the specimen to ensure that the diagnostic needs of the donor can be met before any remnant fresh tissue is procured.
  3. Quality control sections are taken to confirm the tissue's histological identity. The tissue is then made available to the investigator according to specifications stated in the Tissue Requisition Form (e.g. snap-frozen, in sterile media, or in cold saline).
  4. See Additional Tissue Procurement Services for the recommended process of locating paraffin embedded blocks.

Tissue Distribution Process

Please complete the Tissue Request Form and e-mail it (as an attachment) to cboyd2@iupui.edu and cmbeard@iupui.edu. Also, please fax a copy of your IRB approval to utilize tissue from our bank to (317) 491-6419 (attention: Carol Boyd, Tissue Procurement). We will contact you by e-mail or phone as to the availability of the tissues you have requested.

Templates for IRB Submission

IUCC has developed templates to guide investigators in their IRB submission for approval of tissue use from the IU/Lilly Tissue Bank. Use of these templates does not guarantee IRB approval.
