Membership in the IU Simon Cancer Center is open to full-time faculty of Indiana University, IUPUI, or other universities in Indiana who contribute on some level to the overall mission of the cancer center in areas of research, education, patient care, or community outreach. There is no membership fee.
Membership is available at three levels:
- Associate (designed for newly recruited faculty in their start-up period)
- Affiliate (designed for clinical faculty)
Faculty are generally proposed for membership by a research program leader or a department chair, but all interested and eligible people are invited to apply. Applications are reviewed for eligibility and a recommendation is made by the IU Simon Cancer Center Leadership Council, with the final decision made by the director. All members' eligibility is reviewed on an annual basis to assure that the high membership standards of the IU Simon Cancer Center are maintained and compliance with all membership criteria has been met. Membership may be inactivated if an individual does not continue to meet the necessary criteria.
Based on their interests and research focus, members also become a part of one of the four IUSCC programs and one developing program:
- Breast Cancer
- Cancer Prevention and Control
- Experimental and Developmental Therapeutics
- Hematopoiesis, Malignant Hematology, and Immunology
