My research goals are to examine the regulation of tumor suppressors and oncogenes. 1. The factors involved the induction and regulation the activity of the Mdm2 oncogene in a breast model system of epithelial to mesenchymal transition (EMT). We will also examine if our observation from the bench correlate with patient samples of DCIS of non-metastatic and metastatic disease. 2. Understand how modification to the tumor suppressor protein PTEN regulate it ability to function as a tumor suppressor and cooperate with p53 in response to genotoxic stress to induce cell death. The ultimate goal is to determine if such modifications may be altered to alter current treatment approaches. 3. We have made an observation involving a transcription factor that is activated in EMT and we want to develop a drug screening method to disrupt its activity.
